Meet Our Directors
Here are the folks that make YMCA Camp Mohawk a very special experience. Each one brings their own unique talents and shares the love of working with our campers.
Sally & Fran Marchand, Executive Director
This will be Fran and Sally's 25th year at Mohawk. Prior to this, Fran directed camps in New Hampshire and Connecticut beginning in 1972, while Sally was rather occupied with their four sons. In 2012, Fran will devote a great deal of energy to developing the assets necessary to ensure that Mohawk is available for the next generation of girls. While most daily operations will be turned over to Patrick, Fran and Sally will still be very involved with the campers, staff, and program.
Patrick Marchand, Camp Director
Having grown up at Mohawk, Patrick has a genuine appreciation of the Mohawk traditions and the impact Mohawk has on children. Patrick graduated with a Bachelors degree in Recreation from Springfield College then went on to direct YMCA Camp Torymca for six years. This will be Patrick's fourth summer as Camp Director of Camp Mohawk. Patrick resides in Torrington with his wife Amy Marchand, who was a counselor at Mohawk and now works at Torrington Savings Bank.
Jo Endersby, Associate Director

Jo joined Mohawk for her first summer in 2011. She has spent every summer since the age of 5 attending or working at camp. Now at Mohawk, Jo's responsibilities include scheduling activities, organizing Senior Trips, and providing support to counselors and other staff. Jo is also the one to go to for all cabin assignments and bunkmate requests for the summer. Jo graduated from Grove City College in Pennsylvania with a degree in Computer Information Systems. After that, she decided camp was too much fun to give up and continued working in camping in South Carolina and Texas. Jo is excited to be back in Connecticut and experiencing the Mohawk Spirit!
Liz Panjian, Office Manager

Liz has spent 7 years previously at Mohawk as a camper, CIT, JC and Counselor. She attended The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and received a B.F.A. in Theatre Management and Production. Her love of theatre and the arts was cultivated at Camp Mohawk where she discovered theatre as a camper and eventually headed the drama program as a counselor. Now that she's back at Mohawk, she takes joy in managing the inner workings of camp: registrations, human resources and development.
Summer Staff
Each cabin is under the leadership of mature, caring counselors. Many of our counselors have come up through the ranks of Mohawk as campers, CIT, Junior Counselor, and then Counselor. Others are recruited throughout the United States and other English speaking countries such as England, Ireland, Scotland, and Australia. Counselors are selected based on their experience with children, energy, creativity, and a desire to be a positive role model for children.
All staff are required to participate in an intensive pre-season on-site training.
