Here are the folks that make YMCA Camp Mohawk a very special experience.  Each one brings their own unique talents and shares the love of working with our campers.

This will be the twentieth-first year directing Mohawk for Fran and Sally. Prior to this, Fran directed camps in New Hampshire and Connecticut beginning in 1972, while Sally was rather occupied with their four sons. Both Fran and Sally are known for their insistence on adherence to exceptionally high standards of competence on their staffs’ part. Ardent missionaries for the promotion of universal values, Fran and Sally have created an atmosphere at Mohawk where children and staff grow in knowledge and appreciation of themselves, their relationship with God, their relationship with others and the natural environment.

Nadine is well known to most of the Mohawk family, having been a critical part of the team for seven years. In 2008, Mohawk will take advantage of Nadine’s considerable skills in training, motivating and supervising others to deliver the mission of this organization. As a former counselor and Program Director, Nadine brings an experienced perspective to her position and can offer genuine support to our staff. Look for the brightest spot in camp and you’ll find Nadine – it’s her perpetual smile.

If you’ve called or emailed camp, you probably have communicated with this gentleman. Rick has been involved with the YMCA for over twenty years and is perhaps the individual most often mentioned by parents in their positive comments about our operations. Rick manages registrations, bunk mate requests, parent communications and all the business functions of camp. Behind the scenes of every successful venture, there is usually a person who actually keeps things flowing smoothly. Here at Mohawk, this is Rick.

Kristin is the Program Director at Mohawk.  In this role, she hires staff, plans and schedules activities for summer camp, plans special events, provides support to counselors, helps with homesick counselors, and helps with pre & post rental groups. This summer Kristin will also be our Bunkmate Coordinator.

Prior to coming to Mohawk, Kristin has spent the past 7 years working at Frost Valley YMCA in  New York and YMCA Camp Duncan in Illinois.  In addition, she has her master’s degree in Recreation Administration from Aurora University in Wisconsin.

Andrea comes to us all the way from Washington state where she attends Evergreen State College in Olympia. She is working towards her Bachelor in liberal arts, concentrating on media studies. Andrea has spent the last 8 summers working at Salvation Army camps where she has held numerous positions such as counselor, cook, Program Director and Lead Counselor.

Andrea will be directing our Counselor-in-Training Program, assisting with staff support, and monitoring camper issues such as homesickness.

We are very excited to welcome Andrea to the Mohawk Family.

Now in her eighth year at Mohawk, Shirley is a combination medical resource, health officer, cabin inspector, therapist and homesick counselor.  Shirley’s exceptional management of the health issues of 266 people a session is reassuring to staff, parents, campers and management. While a stickler for attention to health issues, Shirley is respected and loved by all – even when she is repeating for the nth time to “drink plenty of water”, “don’t share your water bottle”, “ put on your sunscreen”; “check for ticks”.

Rachel is back for her 11th year directing all the riding programs at Mohawk. During the off season, Rachel is a British Horse Society instructor and competes in dressage events.  Rachel has ridden for 25 years and brings a wealth of experience, patience and creativity to her position. During the summer, Rachel manages twenty-two horses, eight staff and up to 84 riding lessons a day.
