Overnight Camp - Counselor in Training
So You Want To Be A Counselor in Training?
Explanation of the CIT Program
So, you want to be a Counselor in Training?
Congratulations on your ambition and desire to experience growth in leadership skills.
But WAIT!
Do you really understand just exactly what it means to be a CIT?
Did you know that the number one comment of CIT’s is always, “I can’t believe how busy I am?”
CIT’s are assigned to activities to learn how to teach. CIT’s have lectures and classes on how to write lesson plans and risk management programs for activities. CIT’s will study age group characteristics and how they apply to age appropriate planning.
CIT’s will share leadership assignments such as planning chapel, special events, the triathlon, and cabin activities.
One of the most challenging roles is that of providing leadership to the other CIT’s when your turn to comes to be the head of a particular project.
You will learn and practice public speaking. Having to get up in front on 250 people and speak enthusiastically about your program for Optional Rec. period is just one of the opportunities CIT’s routinely enjoy.
All this is in addition to practical stills such as fire-building, knots, boating safety, games leadership, aquatic training, and general group leadership.
The CIT experience is not all work and no play. CIT’s enjoy both high and low elements on the Ropes Course, nights out in town every two weeks and a time off period each day.
Special Optional opportunities for CIT’s include being assigned to a position as “Cabin CIT”, being selected to participate in the certification program for lifesaving and instruction in a CPR and/or First Aid program. Participation in these programs is based on the recommendation of the CIT Director and not a part of the regular program.
We are pleased you are interested in the CIT program and encourage you to apply if you are serious about learning and growing in the manner described.
