Position: Cindy Morse Leadership Development Director Supervisor: YMCA Camp Mohawk CEO Status: Exempt seasonal
General Functions: Under the direction of the YMCA Camp Mohawk CEO, the Leadership Development Director is responsible for: * providing leadership to the Mohawk Leadership Training Program and proving continuing education, training and support to seasonal staff. * providing support to campers in need or crisis. * participation as a member of the Senior Staff team. * pre-camp - assisting with management of all operations relating to YMCA Camp Mohawk including day and resident campers.
Essential Functions and Duties: 1. Relating to YMCA Camp Mohawk for Girls: A. Provide leadership assistance to the YMCA Camp Mohawk for Girls resident camp: 1. Execute program with assistance of Associate Director and Program Director 2. Provide support and guidance to staff 3. Assist with leadership to Special Events, “all camp” events, and ceremonies 4. Communicate with parents as necessary B. Provide support to staff with children in need or exhibiting behavioral issue. 2 Relating to Leadership development: A. Provide primary leadership to the Mohawk Leadership Development Program. B. Assist with development and delivery of the pre-camp staff training agenda. C. Provide on going training and support to camp staff throughout the season.
Job Specifications: The Leadership Development Director should have at a minimum, one season of administrative experience (Assistant Director, Program Director, etc.) with a substantial resident camp program or its equivalent. He/She should have a commitment to the YMCAs mission and purpose and knowledge of how it is accomplished through programming.
He/She must have demonstrated personal leadership ability and skill in accomplishing program goals through the involvement of other people - both employees and volunteers.
The Leadership Development Director must have sound management skills related to: program development, communication, supervision of staff, public relations, problem solving, volunteer development and leadership training.
This position requires competence in the use of word processing, Excel, and Power Point software.
This position requires an individual who can walk one mile in fifteen minutes including stepping over natural obstacles such as logs, rocks, etc, and can life a 14” X 18” X 36” object weighing 40 pounds to a height of forty-eight inches.
Instructor level credentials in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable but not necessary: challenge course, aquatics, equestrian sports, dramatic arts.
Familiarity with American Camping Association standards for resident camps in highly desirable but not necessary.

Execution and delivery of the YMCA Camp Mohawk Leadership Development Program in a professional, effective manner resulting in a highly trained, motivated and inspired leader corp. 2. Accomplishment of YMCA Camp Mohawk for Girls mission related goals: A. Campers and staff at Camp Mohawk will grow in knowledge and appreciation of themselves B. Campers and staff at Camp Mohawk will grow in knowledge and appreciation of their relationships with others C. Campers and staff at Camp Mohawk will grow in knowledge and appreciation of their relationship with God. D. Campers and staff at Camp Mohawk will grow in knowledge and appreciation of their relationship with the natural environment. 3. Delivery of in-season continuing education and training to staff resulting in a staff that is competent, confident, appreciated and capable of delivering the mission of this organization while themselves experiencing a highly rewarding and purposeful summer. 4. Ratings of above average or above on all aspects of Mohawk staff evaluations with the exception of food service and policy related issues. (Shared responsibility for this outcome) 5. A personal understanding and appreciation for the potential of Camp Mohawk to be a transformative experience in a child or a young woman’s life.
