Stable Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION

YMCA Camp Mohawk

Position: Stable/Farm Staff Responsible to: Riding Director

Qualifications:

1. Intermediate level rider.

2. Ability to lift 80 lb. feed bag to 48” height.

3. Experience in stable management.

4. Experience in horse care and grooming.

5. Sound communication skills.

6. Ability to work as a member of staff.

7. Able to walk one mile over rough terrain in under 13 minutes without any assistance.

8. Ability to repeatedly project voice commands such as to be comprehensible at a distance of 200’.

Desirable Qualifications:

Leadership experience with children

Position purpose:

To support Riding Staff in delivery of quality Riding instruction to campers.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Care, grooming and feeding of camp horses.

2. Mucking and maintenance of stable area.

3. Maintenance of riding tack, tools.

4. Maintenance of feed and supply inventories.

5. Tacking and un-tacking horses.

6. Exercising horses as assigned by Riding Director

7. Maintenance of appropriate records

8. Meet daily with Riding Director

9. Care and feeding of farm animals

10. Maintenance and cleaning of barn area.

11. Cabin coverage for 2 nights during session.

Secondary Responsibilities:

1. Participate as a full member of the Mohawk staff team in Special Events, evening programs, and Unit Programs.

2. Assist with “Opening Day” and “Closing Day” as assigned

3. Officer of the Day as assigned.

4. Assist as necessary as escort for unscheduled trips to town.
