Alumni Question of the Quarter: Fall 2026

In the days of text messaging and video chats, Camp Mohawk is still analog for its campers. Parents can send incoming emails that get printed and delivered to campers as part of evening mail call, but Campers themselves cannot use phones or send e-messages. Letters home and mail call are still a camp tradition. For the next edition, we want to hear about a favorite letter or care package you received as a camper. Send an e-mail at alumni@campmohawk.org or leave a comment on the Question of the Quarter thread in the Camp Mohawk Alumni Association Facebook group.

Last quarter, we asked Alumni to tell us about a smell that transports them back to Camp. Below are some of the responses we received on the Facebook page—come join the discussion!

Victoria Braga: My apartment has wooden beams and on damp days if I have the windows open, it smells like the cabins!

MK Campbell: Tempera paints! I just picture being back in the Arts & Crafts shed.

Patty Sutherland: Wet, musty towels!  And cedar from my trunk!

Laura Anne Maturo: Bug juice! That fruity, sweet smell.

Kathryn Krase: Avon Skin So Soft.

Harriett Ferrell: Campfire smell for sure.  And maybe it sounds gross but I don’t mean it to…the smell of wet towels and bathing suits hung over railings to dry.

Diana McCarthy Bercury: Horse bug spray.

Tierney Steele Callaghan:  The mix of Coppertone sunscreen and Deep Woods Off bug spray.  And I don’t know how to describe it, but the smell of the Rec Hall is my favorite ever!
