The Troubadours Return

For the fourth summer, several Alumni have returned to Camp to share their love of singing with today’s campers and to encourage more all-camp singing. For the first time, they spent three of the four “middle of session” Sundays at Camp instead of just one and were rewarded by increasing participation and enthusiasm. Kudos to Christy Schilling and Amanda Quaintance for planning each of these visits and being the foundation of the fun.
On different days they were joined by Betsy Trumbull, Karen Luttenberger, and Peggy Bailey. Over 30 campers and CITs popped in to learn some unit and dining hall songs, and some to learn guitar. Some had begun learning in previous years and returned to build on their skills. Even better, they turned around and taught some of the songs to the rest of Camp during snack time at the Dining Hall. The campers loved interacting with the alums and had lots of questions about life at Camp back in the day. The alums found the time both fun and joyous. As Amanda said, "sitting on the porch of Moore Lodge, looking out at Mohawk Pond, our voices-young and old-echo through the years with hearts a'bursting. It still feels like home."

A special story and treat popped up this year. A guitar that seems to have been in storage above the Rec Hall for 50 years (or more?) was discovered. Amanda took it home, completely refurbished it and used it for the last session. She did an absolutely beautiful job painting the case. What a multi-talented artist! She plans to leave it with Camp so anyone who wants to practice will have the opportunity. The name Deb Griffith was in the case—and we’d love to know if any of you remember her or know how to get in touch with her.
Our quest to bring music back to camp will continue next summer and may even include singing around a campfire on opening day. Everyone is welcome to join the fun!
